After spending time with the Acer Aspire R 13, we are impressed by the Ezel Aero Hinge that enables the R 13 to function in six different modes. You can tell Acer focused on the details of this hinge and the overall design engineering of the machine. These little details make a big difference in how the different modes feel and function.

With a better keyboard, this machine would serve so many different needs. However, people who type for a living or who do a lot of typing for their personal use will want to look at another system. High end gamers will need dedicated graphics, something this machine doesn’t give them. However, most people will think this machine gives them enough power for the average tasks, for entertainment and even some light pro-level media creation purposes.

Model: The Acer Aspire R7-371T-78UV is a convertible laptop that is easy to lug around while doubling up as a tablet. Design is kept simple and elegant with the entire device finished in metallic dark grey. Even the lid has a minimalistic look with just the Acer branding positioned at the center left. What makes a successful convertible laptop is the ease of usage and durability of the hinge system. Acer implements the Acer Ezel Hinge which is high quality and stable. The 13.3 inch WQHD Active Matrix TFT LCD is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass. Image quality is good with responsive multi-touch capability and comes especially useful in tablet mode.

Intel Core i7: The Intel Core i7 for laptops is based on the LG1156 Core i5/i7 CPU for desktops. The base clock speed of the CPUs is relatively low, but because of a huge Turbo mode, the cores can dynamically overclock to up to 3.2 GHz (920XM). Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as high clocked dual-core CPUs (using single threaded applications) but still offer the advantage of 4 cores. Because of the large TDP of 45 W / 55 W, the CPU is only intended for large laptops.
5500U: Broadwell-based ULV (ultra low voltage) dual-core processor for notebooks and ultrabooks. Offers an integrated HD Graphics 5500 GPU and is manufactured in 14 nm.» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.

There are hardly any tablets in this display size range anymore. For subnotebooks, on the other hand, it is the standard format.
The advantage of subnotebooks is that the entire laptop can be small and therefore easily portable. The smaller display also has the advantage of requiring less power, which further improves battery life and thus mobility. The disadvantage is that reading texts is more strenuous on the eyes. High resolutions are more likely to be found in standard laptops.
