If you were part of the gaming community back in 2008 and owned an Xbox 360, you might remember A Kingdom for Keflings. Now, the charming city builder returns with a remake titled A World of Keflings – and it’s already receiving a warm welcome on Steam.

It’s 2008, and the Xbox 360 has been around for about three years. Amid blockbusters like Gears of War 2 and Fable II, a refreshingly laid-back building game from NinjaBee quietly made its debut – A Kingdom for Keflings. Trading action and explosions for a slower pace, the game lets you step into the shoes of a gentle giant helping tiny, endearing villagers build their kingdom. Now, more than 15 years after its original release, this classic is making a comeback.

A World of Keflings is a modern reimagining of the original game, preserving its cozy charm while updating both visuals and gameplay. The graphics are based on the remastered 2014 Wii U version but have been enhanced specifically for today’s PCs. One key new feature is the introduction of the Builder Brothers – helpful little assistants who simplify resource management and reduce the need for constant micromanagement. The co-op experience has also received a major upgrade. While the original only supported two-player online multiplayer, the new Steam version allows up to eight players to build together. Control options have been expanded as well: for the first time, the game offers full mouse and keyboard support alongside touch input and traditional controllers.

So far, A World of Keflings has been met with overwhelming praise. Since its release on July 29, the charming builder has gathered over 200 reviews on Steam – an impressive 99% of them positive. This strong reception has propelled it to the top of SteamDB’s “Hot Releases” chart. According to SteamDB, the current player peak hovers around 300. The game is available on Steam for about $11, and there’s a free demo for those who want to try it out first. While there’s no official support for the Steam Deck (available on Amazon for $470) yet, players can still attempt to run it on the device.
