The Samsung Galaxy S22 and S22+ will both utilize 50 MP main cameras and a new leak has now revealed what sensor that will be. The S22 Ultra is also tipped to mark a return to relatively high charging wattage after Samsung abandoned the feature on the Galaxy Note 20 series.

The Galaxy S22 and S22+ will both use 50 MP main cameras. This has been known for a while now but there's been no information about what sensor exactly that will be. According to leaker Ice Universe, the 50 MP sensor in question is Samsung's ISOCELL GN5. Samsung released the GN5 last week alongside the 200 MP HP1. While the HP1 will not make an appearance on the Galaxy S22 series, the GN5 will.

The GN5 itself, although new, isn't exactly a top-spec sensor. It's a 1/1.5-inch sensor intended to compete against Sony's IMX766, a mid-range sensor that has been used on phones like the OnePlus Nord 2. As such, this is a bit disappointing. The GN1—to be used on the Google Pixel 6 series—and the GN2 on the Mi 11 Ultra are both bigger and more powerful than the GN5. Of course, implementation is also important and we expect performance that trumps that of the 12 MP IMX555 used on previous Galaxy S flagship phones.

The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is also tipped to see a return to 45 W fast charging. Samsung introduced that on the Galaxy Note 10+ but removed the feature on the Note 20 Ultra a year later. The S22 Ultra will bring it back apparently, and should offer charging speeds on par with the competition.
