Nvidia Shield launch date postponed due to quality issues

First, Nvidia reduced the price of its handheld gaming device Shield before the planned launch. Now the manufacturer also misses out on the planned June 27 launch date due to faulty components.

Nvidia's handheld gaming console, or "portable gaming device" as Nvidia prefers to call it, is not off to a good start. To be more specific, it's not off to a start at all for the time being. The unit was scheduled to start shipping on June 27, but this is not going to happen because of quality problems.

On June 20, Nvidia made headlines with a spontaneous price reduction on the gaming device from its original $350 asking price to $300. The GPU manufacturer hinted in a blog post that this was a response to user feedback about the $350 price tag being perceived as too high.

According to Nvidia, the reason for the delay is a problem with a "third-party mechanical component". Instead of releasing the unit today, Nvidia says that it will not ship until July, but other than that the GPU manufacturer offers no exact delivery date. Meanwhile, Nvidia's blog post is generating quite a few unhappy comments.
