Google adds new features to the Pixel 3, Pixel 4 and Pixel 5 series with its March 2021 update
Google has announced its latest feature drop in a blog post, which should be rolling out to Pixel 3 devices or newer within the next few days. The company has not provided a timetable for the rollout but the company is usually quick in distributing feature drops globally.
This month, Google has focused on refining the camera app and its Wellness platform. Specifically, Pixel smartphones will soon be capable of taking photos and videos underwater, albeit using the Kraken Sports KRH03 and KRH04 smartphone housings. According to Google, all of the camera app's features are available underwater, including night and portrait modes. Accordingly, Google has tweaked the app's UI to make it easier to use underwater.
Additionally, Google has added a feature that allows you to measure your heart and respiratory rates using a Pixel's camera, on which we reported last month. This feature will sit within the Google Fit app rather than the stock camera app, though.
Moreover, the Google Recorder app will be able to create backups on Google Drive automatically. There is also now a Google Recorder web interface that will allow you to 'share, play and search' recordings that have been backed up to Google Drive. Finally, Google has added some new wallpapers and has revised bedtime features when using a Pixel smartphone on its Pixel Stand.
