We’d previously heard from Dell that their XPS 14z would be going on sale on the 1st of November, and true to their word the laptop can now be had in exchange for at least $999.
First announced back at IFA 2011, the 14z belongs to Dell’s new Z series of notebooks along with the 13z and 15z. The series of notebooks draws many design cues from Apple’s MacBook Pro, and the 14z is no different with its aluminum casing, side speaker grills and Chiclet keyboard that go along with a thickness of just .9 inches.
Now as far as the options available with the 14z, a starting price tag of $999 will guarantee a 2.40GHz Core i5-2430M CPU, 6GB of DDR3 RAM, Intel HD 3000 Graphics and an 8-cell battery. On the other hand, Dell has multiple other configurations available, with the most expensive one coming in at $1,599 and featuring a Core i7-2640M 2.80GHz CPU, 8GB of DDR3 RAM, a 256GB SSD and a discrete NVIDIA GeForce GT520M GPU with 1GB of vRAM.
With its sub-$1,000 starting price, the XPS 14z matches neatly with Intel’s Ultrabook notebooks, but offers a bit more real estate at 14” (1366x768). For those interested, the XPS 14z can currently be purchased from Dell’s online store, but make sure to check out our detailed review here before forking over the big bucks.
