WhatsApp now lets iPad users sign up, adds Status music sharing

WhatsApp is getting a few new features on phones, tablets, laptops, and cars to improve the experience. From improved PDF management, new status options, and an easier iPad sign-up flow, the company is improving its app for all platforms this week.

iPad users are now able to sign up to WhatsApp directly on iPadOS. Previously, users had to register their iPad as a secondary device and link it to a phone as a linked device. With this new change, WhatsApp is letting iPad users make use of an iPad as a primary device without needing to use a phone as a primary.

WhatsApp is also making it easier to use PDFs directly from the app. Now, if you get a PDF sent to you through WhatsApp, you can make small edits like highlighting or annotating without needing to download them or open a separate app. This feature isn't live on mobiles unfortunately; you'll need to be using WhatsApp Web or the desktop client to take advantage of this.

Cars also get a bit of love, whether you're using Android Auto or CarPlay. The company says it's revamped the experience for vehicles, and you're now able to listen and respond to messages, make calls, and contact your favourites both hands-free and with your car's touch screen.

Finally, WhatsApp will let you share music right from Apple Music and Spotify to your status. It brings it in line with Instagram, which has offered this same feature for a while now. Much like its username features, Meta seems to want to make sure you can get an equivalent social experience on WhatsApp as with Instragram and Facebook. It's a small quality of life tweak, but all these updates are small quality of life tweaks to an already robust platform.
