What the latest climate report reveal about our planet

Each year, Future Earth, the Earth League, and the World Climate Research Programme bring together researchers to study and explore trends over the years. The 2025 edition revealed troubling findings, including accelerated ocean warming, declining land capacity to absorb carbon, and Earth’s energy imbalance.
The research was compiled into a paper and accompanying report, which was summarized into ten key insights. The first is that the Earth is heating faster than expected, with 2024 as the warmest year on record. The second is that oceans are also heating very rapidly. The third is that the land is absorbing less carbon. The fourth is that climate change and biodiversity loss feed each other. The fifth is that groundwater is depleting faster, and the sixth is the increased spread of dengue fever due to increased mosquito survival in the warmer temperatures. The seventh is that the heat is reducing productivity at work, and the eighth is the need for carbon removal from the atmosphere. The ninth highlights problems within the carbon credit market, and finally, the strength of combined policies.
Information on these issues was collected from satellites monitoring the Earth and is a pointer to the brewing problem if solutions are not sought immediately. By communicating these findings, this report aims to ensure that relevant decisions are made in combating these issues.
