The TV maker wants to appeal to gamers by making its features more apparent to buyers. Vizio is touting 4K 120 Hz, variable refresh rates, and automatic game detection so users won't have to manually set the TV to game mode.
Allen Ngo,

Can't decide on what TV to get for your gaming needs? Apparently, Vizio has got that covered. Its latest lineup of IQ 4K HDR TV models ship with proprietary ProGaming Engine and V-Gaming Engine software optimized for gaming.

According to the press release, the V-gaming Engine has an auto low latency mode and an auto game mode whenever it identifies a game signal. Higher-end TV sets like the M series or P series include the ProGaming Engine for variable refresh rates and up to 120 FPS.

the VIZIO V-Series 4K TVs include the new V-Gaming Engine™, which utilizes Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) and Auto Game Mode to optimize performance upon identifying the game signal. Step-up models like the New M-Series™, P-Series® Quantum, P-Series Quantum X, and all new OLED include a ProGaming Engine, which offers support for variable refresh rate(VRR) and support for 4K at 120fps.

"We're excited to be the official HDTV and Sound Bar partner for the new Marvel's Avengers game and to give gamers every advantage as they plan the highly anticipated game upon its release." says Vizio Chief Technology Officer Bill Baxter.

Of course, the features apply to any game and not just the upcoming Avengers game, but Vizio wants to ride that Marvel wave for as much exposure as possible. Most any television these days will work for gaming so long as black-white and gray-gray response times are fast and input lag is minimal.

After graduating with a B.S. in environmental hydrodynamics from the University of California, I studied reactor physics to become licensed by the U.S. NRC to operate nuclear reactors. There's a striking level of appreciation you gain for everyday consumer electronics after working with modern nuclear reactivity systems astonishingly powered by computers from the 80s. When I'm not managing day-to-day activities and US review articles on Notebookcheck, you can catch me following the eSports scene and the latest gaming news.
