Toby Fox’s Deltarune Chapters 3 and 4 dropped together on October 31, 2025. However, close friends of the creator of Undertale are already trying out Deltarune’s Chapter 5 behind closed doors.
In a Bluesky post, Toby Fox revealed to the internet that he’s already letting friends playtest Chapter 5, stating, “I had a friend play through an early unfinished version of Chapter 5. Their testimonial was ‘I am still thinking about it a lot and want to play it more, and it’s kawaii when Toby is worried about it if it’s good enough.’”
Toby’s playtester friends are probably enjoying the game, while the developer himself is drowning in doubt about meeting expectations for the next chapter in Deltarune. He is known to be quite meticulous in his development process.
Toby Fox also shared another friend’s reaction to the upcoming chapter and said, “What’s the opposite of ‘I miss Tenna?’” making a nod to the TV host antagonist from Deltarune’s Chapter 3’s TV World arc.
Fox has been known to leave cryptic messages or teases in his posts, foreshadowing future events in his games. Amidst fan confusion, Toby Fox explained, “My friend said this affectionately as a joke, and perhaps it doesn’t have a deep meaning. They liked the game.”
Currently, Deltarune is set to be a seven-chapter story. Eager gamers can play Deltarune Chapters 1 and 2 completely free. However, those in it for the long run will have to pay $24.99 for each chapter moving forward.
Deltarune Chapters 3 and 4 launched to monumental success, garnering an “Overwhelmingly Positive” rating on Steam with a 98.56% user score out of 78,000 reviews.
So far, not much is known about Chapters 6 and 7, and they are expected to be released sometime in 2027. As for Deltarune’s Chapter 5 release window, he tempered fan expectations and said, “Deltarune Chapter 5 will not be released in the first half of 2026. We don’t have any external factors surrounding the release date this time. We’ll release it when it’s done.”
Earlier, Toby Fox mentioned that there were a few “obstacles” in Chapters 3 and 4’s development. Since those problems have been cleared out, there’s “little to get in our way now.”
