We went from a single rear camera to two last year, and 2018 saw the advent of the tri-rear camera setup with the launch of the Huawei P20 Pro. Devices like the Samsung Galaxy A7 (2018) and the OPPO R17 Pro have since gone on sale with their own takes on the technology and with the recent launch of the LG V40 ThinQ, there’s no doubt that three cameras will be a staple feature in the flagship space by next year.
Lenovo doesn’t seem to like “staple”, though, and the company is set to unveil a new device, and one that will carry a shocking four rear cameras. According to a Weibo post by Chang Cheng, Lenovo’s VP, the Chinese OEM has such a device in the works, although other details are currently unknown.
Word on the grapevine claims the device will be the Lenovo S5 Pro—or Z5 Pro. It's currently unclear. The original Lenovo Z5 was notorious for being the very personification of false advertising, and we’re not keen on believing anything Lenovo has to say these days. With the Z5’s shenanigans in mind, it wouldn’t even be surprising if we ended up getting two rear cameras and two selfie shooters, making up a grand total of four cameras. That’s just how unconvincing the company’s marketing is right now.
Hopefully, we get something grander, as innovation is always nice. We wouldn’t bet on that, though.
