This hidden code lets OnePlus and Oppo users replace the default Google Phone

Phone by Google, also called the Google Phone dialer, has served as the default dialer on many OnePlus and Oppo smartphones for years. While it handles the basics well, some users have continued to prefer the Oppo/ OnePlus Phone dialer for its interface, anonymous call recording feature and deeper integration with the companies’ software. A newly discovered option is now making the switch possible without sideloading the app or installing any other APK.

To install it, users need to dial *#*#677776#*#* in their current Phone app. A prompt will then appear asking them to restart the device. Once the phone reboots, the Oppo/ OnePlus Phone dialer should be installed and can be selected as the default Phone app. This was first discovered by the user Divyansh on X. Users have reported that the method works on flagship devices like the OnePlus 12 and 13 series, Oppo Find X8 series and even on budget smartphones like the Nord CE models. However, the phone must be running Android 16 with the August security patch and software version 16.0.10.501 or newer.

Compared with ODialer, the native dialer offers additional features such as Beacon Link, AI-powered call summaries, and a redesigned user interface. The app is already included in the software package, and the code simply makes it accessible. Another major advantage is call recording without the “This call is being recorded” announcement. The native dialer also supports the Live Updates feature introduced with ColorOS 16 and OxygenOS 16, allowing supported ongoing activities and call-related information to appear in the system’s Live Updates interface for quick access without opening the dialer.

Devices like the OnePlus Nord 4 are running Android 16 with the August security patch, meeting the required criteria. However, the trick fails to work on them because they are currently on software version 16.0.05.x. Users can expect it to work once the next update arrives for the device. Availability also appears to depend on the phone’s region. It has been found to work on Indian (IN) region models, but it may not work on models sold in Europe or the US due to local regulations. For now, users in those regions can continue using the ODialer app, as it remains unclear whether Oppo or OnePlus will ever enable the feature in those markets.
