"Told my friends with panic in my voice that the lava is rising – even though it wasn't. One friend panicked and died because of it. 10/10 game." – Moments like this offer just a taste of what players can expect from PEAK, the new co-op climbing adventure now available on Steam.

PEAK is a gripping co-op climbing adventure that drops players onto a mysterious island after a plane crash. The only way out? Scale a massive mountain to reach freedom. It’s no easy feat – but the game offers support: up to four players can team up and tackle the climb together. For those seeking a tougher challenge, going solo is always an option.

In PEAK, you control your character from a first-person perspective, carefully navigating ledges and cliffs as you ascend the mountain. Teamwork is key – you can secure each other with ropes, pull teammates to safety or share vital supplies like food, water and medicine. The game also incorporates survival elements, where planning matters as much as skill. Inventory and stamina are limited and every extra kilo of gear slows you down. If someone dies, they return as a ghost who can offer clues – but can’t lend a hand. And if you stray too far from the group, you risk being hunted by a relentless AI enemy that preys on solo climbers.

Surprise success on Steam

PEAK has had a surprisingly strong debut on Steam. Since its release on June 16, the co-op adventure has already surpassed 100,000 concurrent players, according to SteamDB. It has also earned more than 15,000 reviews, 92% of which are positive – all without an Early Access phase. Currently ranked 39th in the global Steam charts, that’s an impressive feat for a small indie game.

Alongside its demanding climbing mechanics, PEAK owes much of its success to daily-changing maps and a variety of quirky items. But if Steam reviews are any indication, what truly sets the game apart are the hilarious moments players share with friends. One reviewer summed it up perfectly: “Told my friends with panic in my voice that the lava is rising even though it wasn't – one friend panicked and died because of it. 10/10 game.”

Fun co-op adventure for under $10

PEAK offers plenty of co-op fun without breaking the bank. It’s available on Steam for around $8. However, its compatibility with the Steam Deck – which currently sells for about $490 on Amazon – is still listed as unknown.
