Deal | Steam adds new batch of free games, including several well-rated indies

A handful of new free games were spotted on Steam, and while they were spotted in January 2026, almost all of them were released in late December 2025. Moreover, not all the freebies seem worth trying, but there are some that have already received good overall player ratings, such as:

• Fruit Fusion! - a deckbuilding game with simple mechanics and retro-styled visuals. It currently has a "Positive" rating with over 15 reviews.
• The Wild Darkness - a survival-roguelike RPG that's set in a mysterious world filled with challenges. This free game currently boasts an 85% positive rating with around 40 reviews.
• Monstro Maestro - an action-adventure game with 2D levels and challenging boss fights. The freebie has partial controller support and currently holds a 94% positive rating with 50 reviews.
• Diluted - described as a casual adventure game with puzzle-based progression and light combat encounters. It currently boasts a "Positive" rating with 10 reviews.
• Drunk Driving Simulator - a 3D simulator with fun-filled driving mechanics and proper controller support (GameSir Super Nova curr. $40.45 on Amazon). This free game holds a "Very Positive" rating with around 130 reviews.
• Rogue Slots - described as a deckbuilding roguelike with card battler mechanics. It currently has a 71% positive rating with over 40 reviews.
• Once Upon a Shell -  a roguelike racing game with cartoonish visuals and PvE elements. This freebie currently holds an 81% positive rating with over 40 reviews.
• Skybound - described as a 3D exploration platformer with fluid movement mechanics and parkour elements. It now holds a "Positive" rating with around 40 reviews.
• The Scream of Darkness - a story-rich psychological horror game with multiple endings. This freebie currently holds an 83% positive rating with around 20 reviews.
• Pingorile - described as a retro-styled jump'n'run game with vibrant pixel worlds. It currently boasts a "Positive" rating with around 40 reviews.
• The Whittled Horse - an exploration puzzle game with hand-drawn cutscenes and multiple endings. The freebie currently holds an 87% positive rating with 16 reviews.
