Reviews for the Sony Vaio VPCS12V9E/B

83% Sony Vaio VPCS12V9E/B review
Source: It Pro English Archive.org version
Sony's latest Vaio S series laptop is well-specified, comfortable to use and lightweight. It's not perfect though and the very similar but cheaper Vaio VPCS12L9E/B is a better value alternative. It has a slower Core i3 processor instead of an i5 chip, has 4GB instead of 6GB of RAM and doesn't have a built-in 3G modem or fingerprint reader. If you can live with these compromises, you can save around £320.

NVIDIA GeForce 310M: The GeForce 310M is the successor of the GeFore G210M and based on the same chip with very similar clock rates (shader speed +30MHz to 1530MHz).

Only some 3D games with very low demands are playable with these cards.

520M:

The Core i5-520M has only 3 MB L3 Cache (compared to the I7-640M) and clocks between 2.4-2.93 GHz (Turbo Mode). Thanks to Hyperthreading, 4 threads can be processed simultaneously. An integrated graphics card (GMA HD 3150) and a DDR3 memory controller are also included in the package.

13.30":

Above all, this display size is used for subnotebooks, ultrabooks and convertibles. For all three types, this size is quite large. The biggest variety of subnotebooks is represented with this size.

Large display-sizes allow higher resolutions. So, details like letters are bigger. On the other hand, the power consumption is lower with small screen diagonals and the devices are smaller, more lightweight and cheaper.

2 kg:

This weight is typical for very old and big tablets, subnotebooks, ultrabooks and convertibles with a 11-13 inch display-diagonal; nowadays, rather typical for 15 inch laptops.
