Reviews for the Sony Vaio VPCM121AXL

40% Sony VAIO M VPCM121AXL 10.1-inch Netbook PC
Source: Comp Reviews English
While Sony has finally grasped the concept of a less expensive netbook, the VAIO M still falls short of the mark. The $400 price tag is just too high for the features provided. Sure, it has a faster Atom N470 processor but that doesn't offer all that much more performance. It does have a nice anti-glare display and is one of the better built netbooks but the keyboard design is definitely subpar.

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 3150: Integrated (shared memory) graphics card in the intel Atom N4xx CPUs. Minimally faster than an old GMA 950 and therefore not suited for 3D games or HD videos (only MPEG2 acceleration). These graphics cards are not suited for Windows 3D games. Office and Internet surfing however is possible. » Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Graphics Cards and the corresponding Benchmark List.
Intel Atom: The Intel Atom series is a 64-Bit (not every model supports 64bit) microprocessor for cheap and small notebooks (so called netbooks), MIDs, or UMPCs. The speciality of the new architecture is the "in order" execution (instead of the usual and faster "out of order" execution). Therefore, the transistor count of the Atom series is much lower and, thus, cheaper to produce. Furthermore, the power consumption is very low. The performance per Megahertz is therfore worse than the old Pentium 3M (1,2 GHz on par with a 1.6 GHz Atom).
N470: Upcoming Atom CPU for Netbooks with integrated memory controller and GMA 3150 GPU. The performance of the CPU should be compareable to a Atom Z450 with 1.86 GHz and about 5-10% above the N450.» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.
10.1":

This is a typical display size for tablets and small convertibles.

Large display-sizes allow higher resolutions. So, details like letters are bigger. On the other hand, the power consumption is lower with small screen diagonals and the devices are smaller, more lightweight and cheaper.

» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.
1.4 kg:

This weight is typical for big tablets, small subnotebooks, ultrabooks and convertibles with a 10-11 inch display-diagonal.

Sony: Sony Corporation is a multinational conglomerate corporation headquartered in Japan. Sony is one of the leading manufacturers of electronics, video, communications, video game consoles, and information technology products for the consumer and professional markets. Its name is derived from sonus, the Latin word for sound. The company was founded 1946 with another name and renamed in 1958. Sony Corporation is the electronics business unit and the parent company of the Sony Group, which is engaged in business through its five operating segments—electronics, games, entertainment (motion pictures and music), financial services and other. Sony is a notebook manufacturer of medium size according international market shares.

From 2014, Sony has reduced the production of Vaio laptops and finally discontinued them. Sony is still present in the smartphone and tablet market, yet not among the Top 5 manufacturers.

40%: This average evaluation is exceptionally bad. There exist hardly any laptops, which are rated so negative.
