Honor has maintained a fairly low profile since its split with Huawei. We have learned that the company plans on launching a couple of smartwatches soon, along with a few smartphones which will run Google Mobile Services. Now, a new report tells us that there is a Snapdragon 888-powered Honor smartphone in the works.

Tencent News (via MyFixGuide) got word about the mystery smartphone from industry insiders. It could, in all likelihood, be the Honor 40 that showed up online a couple of days ago. All of its predecessors got top-of-the-line hardware, including the best Kirin chipsets Huawei had to offer. That isn't an option anymore, so it stands to reason that it transitions to the only other viable alternatives from Qualcomm or MediaTek.

However, the mystery Honor smartphone's launch could potentially be pushed back even further, given Qualcomm's inability to keep up with Snapdragon 888 demand. Furthermore, loads of Chinese OEMs such as Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo, Realme and OnePlus will have secured their supply of the said chipset, putting Honor at the back of the queue. Therefore, it would be entirely possible for Honor to switch to an older Qualcomm chipset, or even jump ship and join team MediaTek.
