The Seiko 5 Sports SRPL83 is currently $283 on Watch Gang with a discount code. It's advertised as 37 percent off Seiko’s $450 MSRP. The watch comes with 4R36. It's an iconic 24-jewel automatic movement with hand winding and hacking seconds.

Watch Gang is selling the Seiko 5 Sports SRPL83 for $283.08 if you apply code H94SB2Z6F7ZE at checkout. The watch is going for $450 on Seiko’s own US store, so the site basically advertises the deal as 37 percent off.

The code does work — we tried it ourselves (see below). However, it is worth knowing that Long Island Watch, an authorized Seiko dealer, currently has the same reference at $360. If you put it next to that, the saving is about $77, or a little over 20 percent.

And then, there are costs the main "shiny" price leaves out. Shipping is $9.82 and the cart estimates $25.99 in tax, bringing the total to $318.89.

Also, Watch Gang’s own banner advertises a different code, QC86MNV29SGC, for 30 percent off Seiko watches. That one gets you to $315, which is $31.92 higher than the code circulating on Slickdeals.

As for the watch itself, the SRPL83 is the 42.5 mm entry-level model in Seiko’s SKX revival series. It measures 13.9 mm thick and 46 mm lug to lug. Long Island Watch traces the design back to the archive SKX399. Inside, you'll find the 4R36. It's an iconic 24-jewel automatic movement with hand winding and hacking seconds; should be good for roughly 41 hours and carrying a day-date at three.

It is rated to 100 meters. The crystal is curved Hardlex, the unidirectional bezel takes a glossy Hardlex insert, and the hands and indexes use LumiBrite. The caseback is a screw-down exhibition type, and the bracelet is 22 mm with a push-button three-fold clasp.

If you saw the $150 to $200 Seiko 5 deals earlier this month and wondered why this one costs more, those were the 38 mm models rather than this larger case.
