Reports from sources close to Fossil or who have contracted its employees point out that the brand will no longer release Wear OS watches. This means there won’t be Gen 7 smartwatches. It’s also unclear if the Gen 6 wearables will receive the Wear OS 4 update.

Back in the early days of Wear OS, Fossil was known as a key player in the smartwatch market. It used to offer a large number of wearables running the smartwatch operating system. But the brand has been relatively quiet after Google’s partnership with Samsung and Google itself releasing Android smartwatches (Google Pixel Watch 2 curr. $299.99 on Amazon).

To illustrate, Fossil Gen 6 was the last biggest addition to the brand’s smartwatch lineup. It launched two years back, and it just recently received the Wear OS 3.5. There’s no official word on whether the Android wearable will get Wear OS 4 either, and now, it seems that there might not be a successor to this smartwatch as well.

Reports from sources that are close to Fossil and people who have asked the brand’s employees suggest that the brand will discontinue its Wear OS smartwatch lineup. If this happens, there will be no Gen 7 smartwatch from the wearable maker. These reports do align with the lack of events from the brand in this category of watches.

For context, the usual summer release schedule didn’t bring out any information on the Fossil Gen 7. Also, as mentioned above, the Gen 6 smartwatch received the Wear OS 3.5 update last month, whereas previous Samsung Galaxy watches (Watch 6 curr. $266.15 on Amazon) received the Wear OS 4 update two months back.

Moreover, Fossil Gen 6 Android smartwatches are currently enjoying a huge sale. The discount is currently more than 50% on the official website, which suggests that the brand is clearing stocks. But it’s worth noting that the brand hasn’t formally said anything regarding this.
