Raspberry Pi: Bring the mini-ITX form factor to the Compute Module 4 with the Over:Board
The Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4 (CM4) is currently one of the fastest available Raspberry Pi versions, and is actually more overclockable than the Raspberry Pi 4 thanks to its newer chipset revision. The Over:Board transforms the CM4 into a mini-ITX motherboard though, opening the minature machine to the world of PCs. The Over:Board is a carrier board though, so it does not feature a built-in CM4. Instead, you must supply one yourself, but the CM4 retails for as little as US$25.
The Over:Board itself provides a full-size PCIe slot, along with a SATA connector to connect an HDD or SSD. Additionally, there are two USB 2.0 Type-A ports, a micro USB port, a microSD card reader and a 40-pin GPIO header, among other connections. OVER:BOARD has included a CPU fan header for cooling the CM4, too. The full list of I/O that the Over:Board features is as follows:
- 3.5 mm audio jack
- 40-pin Raspberry Pi GPIO header
- CPU fan header
- Gigabit Ethernet jack
- 2x HDMI ports
- 1x micro USB port
- microSD card reader
- PCI-Express slot
- RS-232 COM port
- RTC with backup battery
- SATA connector
- UART header
- 2x USB 2.0 ports
- USB Audio controller
- USB SATA controller
The Over:Board is available to back on Indiegogo from £99 (~US$134). The manufacturer hopes to begin delivering the board in September 2021. However, OVER:DEVICES is also offering pre-production and prototype boards, which it estimates will be available to ship in May 2021 and March 2021, respectively. However, these cost more than the final board, with OVER:DEVICES pricing the pre-production board at £149 (~US$201) and the prototype one at (~US$269).
