Polar Loop gets biceps band, new wristbands and firmware upgrades
Polar Loop ($199 on Amazon) has gained many new competitors over the past few months, not least the considerably cheaper Google Fitbit Air and the Garmin CIRQA, which makes it easier to start workouts manually with a button. This makes it difficult for Polar to remain competitive, not least because Polar Loop offers neither a blood oxygen sensor nor a skin temperature sensor.
The app and the accuracy of the heart rate sensor during certain workouts were also criticized at launch. Now Polar is making improvements in several areas at once. Following an update, the Polar Loop smartphone app finally displays trends, while several firmware updates are said to have made Polar Loop's connection to a smartphone significantly more stable than at launch. A new band also provides an official way to wear Polar Loop on the upper arm to measure heart rate more accurately during intense workouts.
Polar is also taking the opportunity to expand its wristband selection. While Polar Loop was previously only available with a fabric wristband in various colors, the manufacturer now offers two new options. First, a silicone wristband that can be freely adjusted using a magnetic clasp. Clever: The wristband can be reversed to change the color. The wristband is available in either red and black, or beige and white. In addition, Polar now offers a leather wristband with a classic watch buckle in brown and black.
Pricing and availability
The new wristbands are available now in the Polar online store. The bicep band and magnetic silicone wristband each cost $29.99, while Polar charges $49.99 for the leather wristband.
