The Pironman 5 launched last year as a mini tower PC-like case for the Raspberry Pi 5. It expanded the SBC's versatility with an NVMe PiP expansion board, a cooler with a PWM fan, and a small OLED screen. Now, SunFounder has introduced the upgraded version of the chassis, the Pironman 5-Max.
Among the upgrades is support for dual M.2 NVMe SSDs with RAID 0/1 (2 TB Samsung 990 EVO Plus curr. $139.99 on Amazon). SunFounder notes that this upgrade will allow users to build a "high-speed" NAS setup with the Raspberry Pi 5. The Pironman 5-Max also brings Hailo-8L AI Kit support, which should lead to a performance boost on AI-related applications.
SunFounder has seemingly upgraded the cooling system as well. The Pironman 5-Max is said to sport a "powerful" tower cooler that's paired with one PWM fan and two RGB fans. It's said to feature an improved panel design for better ventilation, and the company claims that the noise levels will stay low even when the SBC is handling heavy workloads.
There is a built-in 0.96-inch OLED screen on the Pironman 5-Max. It can offer real-time information about the system, including the temperature, memory and CPU usage, and disk status. SunFounder highlights that this display has an auto sleep mode and can be customized.
As for the ports, the Pironman 5-Max retains the same configuration found in the non-Max version of the Raspberry Pi 5 case. It has the following:
- 1x TF card slot
- 2x USB 2 Type-A
- 2x USB 3 Type-A
- 2x standard HDMI
- 1x USB Type-C for power
Other notable aspects of the Pironman 5-Max include an external GPIO extender, support for an RTC battery, and an optimized layout for "clean" cable management. This new Raspberry Pi 5 case is currently available for pre-order, with the chassis itself currently costing $71.24 on the official website. There are options to configure the package by adding SSDs, a SBC, a camera module, a power supply, and an AI kit.
