According to a Quarterly Report by AMD, 1.3 Million of their Fusion APUs have been shipped since their release in November; along with over 35 Million of their DX11 GPU Units overall. AMD also reported revenue of 1.65 Billion Dollars and a net income of 375 Million Dollars in the 4th Quarter.
While the Fusion APUs have been in production since 2006, they were only shipped this past November. The aim of these Processing Units is to combine general and 3D geometry processing in one single chip, and forego the need for a discrete GPU. They were first introduced in HP’s Pavillion dm1z notebook, and displayed excellent benchmarks for an integrated GPU.
And while there aren’t many systems available at the moment; if these latest numbers are any indication, there should be many more products available soon enough.
