Oura has unveiled its third-generation fitness tracker, the Oura Ring Generation 3. While the ring is significantly smaller than a smartwatch, it still contains numerous health functions, including heart rate and blood oxygen monitoring. The Oura Ring Gen 3 also supports sleep tracking, with the company claiming a 99.6% heart rate monitoring accuracy when asleep.
The ring includes seven temperature sensors too that can determine body temperature changes. Oura has put this data to use for monitoring menstrual cycles and states that the ring can even detect pregnancies nine days earlier than a conventional pregnancy test would. Unfortunately, we have no way of verifying this because Oura has not enabled it on retail versions of the Gen 3.
The Oura Ring Gen 3 weighs 6 g and is made from titanium. The company claims that the ring is waterproof to 100 metres and that it should last at least 4 days between charges. Incidentally, the ring is compatible with Apple Health and Google Fit.
The Oura Ring Gen 3 can be pre-ordered for US$299 and will begin shipping in mid-November. However, the ring also requires a Oura Membership subscription, which costs US$6.99 per month. All new Oura Ring users will receive 6 months of Oura Membership for free, though.
