Readers still considering an iPad 1 purchase better act quick; the official Apple online store is now sold out of certain refurbished models for online order.

As of this writing, the cheapest refurbished iPad 1 model is the 16GB Wi-Fi and 3G model for $479. While still under $500, the asking price is nowhere near the now sold out 16GB Wi-Fi only model, which was only $349 when it was available. The next cheapest model, the 32GB Wi-Fi only version, is now sold out as well.

Apple slashed prices on all first gen iPad models soon after the iPad 2 announcement last month in San Francisco. Check out the official store here for availability updates on each model.

After graduating with a B.S. in environmental hydrodynamics from the University of California, I studied reactor physics to become licensed by the U.S. NRC to operate nuclear reactors. There's a striking level of appreciation you gain for everyday consumer electronics after working with modern nuclear reactivity systems astonishingly powered by computers from the 80s.
