Samsung releases official Gingerbread update for Italian Tab users

Samsung made news with their new Galaxy Tab 10.1 by giving out 5,000 tablets at the Google I/O conference, and now the original Galaxy Tab is also making headlines. The original Galaxy Tab P1000 came out way back in September of 2010 but featured Android 2.2 Froyo and is only now receiving a Gingerbread update.

According to a thread found on the Italian Androidiani forums, Samsung is pushing out an Android 2.3 update for the 7” tablet. Unfortunately, the update doesn’t look to be available over-the-air (OTA) and Tab users must download the update through Samsung’s KIES downloader.

For now it seems as if the update will only be making its way to Italian soil, but it will most likely find its way to the rest of the world soon enough. And while a Honeycomb update would have been nice, users not looking to wait around can head over to the XDA forums and grab the update for themselves.
