Chinese smartphone maker Oppo has officially launched the new Oppo F5 smartphone. Looking very similar to the flagship Oppo R11 coming next week, the device is targeted at the middle of the Android market despite carrying premium bezel-less looks. Like a lot of smartphone makers these days, Oppo is touting “AI” tech for delivering higher quality selfies from its front-facing 20 MP sensor. However, it seems that this might be stretching the truth somewhat when you read the fine print stating it is “propelled by complex algorithms underpinning Artificial Intelligence technology.”
The Oppo F5 centers on a 6.0-inch FHD+ edge-to-edge LTPS LCD display that features a 2160 x 1080 pixel resolution with the popular new 18:9 aspect ratio. It is powered by a mid-range MediaTek MT6763T octa-core processor matched with either 4 GB or 6 GB of RAM. The 4 GB models come with 32 GB of expandable storage while the 6 GB models come fitted with 64 GB of expandable storage. Graphics are powered by an ARM Mali G71 MP2 dual-core GPU clocked at 800MHz, which should be capable of running most mobile games effectively. Battery capacity is a decent 3200 mAh
The Oppo F5 comes in three colors including gold, red and black. It is 156.5 mm in length and is just 7.5 mm thick. Weight is right down at just 152 grams, which is excellent for a device this large. It runs Color OS 3.2, which is based on Android 7.1. It is currently available in the Philippines, with select global markets to follow. It is priced at the equivalent of US$310.
