OpenAI has teamed up with Common Sense Media to offer a free course to educators and help them get more out of generative AI. Common Sense Media is a nonprofit organization that rates technology for children and families.

As reported by Reuters, The course "ChatGPT Foundations for K-12 Educators" will cover best practices for AI and prompt engineering. Focused on ChatGPT, the course will help educators understand the basics of the chatbot and demonstrate ways it can be integrated into teaching practices in a school setting.

It is aimed at educators teaching Kindergarten through 12th Grade and should take less than an hour to complete. The course covers the basics of AI, responsible use, data privacy, and tips on integrating AI in a school setting. OpenAI said the course has been piloted in a dozen school districts, with 98% of the participants saying the course offered them new ideas for their work.

Leah Belsky, VP and General Manager of Education at OpenAI, told Reuters that the course will help "put AI into the hands of every student and every teacher… and also give them the skills to learn how to do it responsibly and effectively."
