Garmin has a new product in the works. The manufacturer itself has officially confirmed this, or rather, it had to. It is likely not a new smartwatch or a screenless tracker, but an advanced cycling computer.

Garmin is likely preparing the upcoming launch of a new device. More specifically, a product with the model number A04831 has appeared in regulatory databases. It is not entirely clear what kind of device this is, but one thing is clear: Garmin will launch a new system, since certification, and in this case certification by several agencies, comes with costs but is also required to sell such products.

The SIRIM database also includes a category for the A04831. Specifically, it is listed as a bike trainer. Garmin actually offers two potentially relevant device categories: indoor trainers, which are essentially complete training devices, and trainers into which a bike can be mounted. These systems are sold under the Tacx brand. The trainers that are not standalone training devices differ again in terms of their specific mounting method, with both roller trainers and trainers to which a bike’s rear axle is attached.

According to the report from Garmin News, however, this is not supposed to be a new Tacx training device, but a new smart cycling computer, specifically the Garmin Edge 1060. This is said to be supported by discounts on the Garmin Edge 1050 and by the timing, since after the Edge 1050 in June 2024, it would indeed be time for a new smart cycling computer. Even so, we do not consider this reasoning necessarily conclusive.
