Nokia 1
The Nokia 1 is Nokia’s best attempt at an ultra-affordable Android smartphone. The real aim of the Nokia 1 is to allow those in more developing regions currently using feature phones to make the jump to smartphones without breaking the bank. The Nokia 1 is small. It has a 4.5-inch display and a body size to match. To keep costs low, the Nokia 1 needs to be very easy to build, and as such doesn’t try to deliver ultra-thin bezels or save much space. The back cover is removable though and Nokia sells a line of Xpress-on covers. Under the cover, a user will find a replaceable battery, two nano-SIM slots, and a microSD card slot. The design is simple and clean. Plastic, but not cheap. Old-school, yet somehow modern. With a 5 MP rear snapper and a 2 MP front offering, the cameras on the Nokia 1 are unlikely to win any photography awards. That said, they do work and a user can take social media-worthy shots with the Nokia 1. There's a little bit of slowdown in the camera app, but it is functional. The Nokia 1 packs a MediaTek MT6737M, which is a quad-core Cortex-A53 processor running at 1.1 GHz. It is coupled with a Mali-T720 GPU and 1 GB of RAM. While the Cortex-A53 is a 64-bit CPU, the Nokia 1 seems to run a 32-bit version of Android. The Nokia 1 comes with 8 GB of internal storage, half of which is used by the Android OS and the pre-installed apps. That means users get around 4 GB of free space for apps, music, and photos. Thankfully users can add additional storage via the microSD card slot, which supports capacities up to 128 GB. Android Go is particularly well suited to using additional storage and makes moving apps and data over to the SD card a breeze. The phone uses an IPS LCD display, so it has good viewing angles and reasonable color reproduction. Its diminutive size (133.6 x 67.78 mm) also means it's easy to use one-handed. The screen on the Nokia 1 is functional and responsive, but it lacks the clarity of screens on more expensive handsets thanks to its lowly 854 x 480 resolution. It's still good enough to read the text, view images, and play games on though. There's no fast charging option via the micro USB port on the base of the device though, so if users are running low and in need of a top up, they will have to be patient. The 2,150 mAh battery is removable, allowing users to purchase a replacement/spare, so if the first one runs out they can easily swap it for a fully charged power pack. Little number 1. The Nokia 1 is the entry-level model into the world of smartphones: under 100 Euros (~$115), a small format, and even a replaceable battery. Find out in this review whether the Nokia 1 is good enough for everyday use.

For its launch price, the Nokia 1 is a difficult sell. With poor screen quality, paltry performance, and poky specifications, it doesn't offer much in the way for value for money. As a smartphone it fails, but as an 'advanced' feature phone it excels.

It turns out that HMD can still manage to make a $149 Nokia device like this one somewhat-compelling, even when you consider the inevitable wrinkles and caveats in play.

The Nokia1 provides more than I expected. It is a competent phone, hardy, the screen is OK, and battery life should give a full 24-hour day.

Nokia 1 might seem like a good proposition on paper, especially with Android Go edition. However, the phone is hard to recommend as it fails to impress when it comes to actual performance. Nokia 1 faces solid competition from Redmi 5A (which one can get for under Rs 5,000 in offline markets), which has better performance in a similar price range. The only highlight here is the stock Android version of Oreo Go edition, though the price makes this seem expensive compared to the competition.

The Nokia 1 is available in Australia through Harvey Norman and JB Hifi for $149, with the Xpress-on Covers also available in a range of colours from $19.95 each. It’s a heck of a price for a decent phone where the software experience is essentially controlled by Google.

Android Go Edition is finally here and the Nokia 1 offers Oreo in a very cheap phone that’s got a colourful and fun design. The idea here is good, offering more available storage and data saving apps.

But, on the other hand, there are no other such phones being sold at retailers in Australia. This makes the Nokia 1 pretty easy to recommend to anyone looking for a sub-$200 smartphone, as it's the only way you're going to get a brand new device with up-to-date Android. The only alternative would be to hit up eBay for a used Samsung Galaxy S4 or similar, and while that would certainly get you as nicer screen, more competent camera and similar performance compared to the Nokia 1, you'd also be stuck on Android 5.0.1 Lollipop (meaning incompatibility with newer apps and features), have years-old security updates (meaning vulnerability to hackers) and various other issues that come with using a five-year-old device (like failing batteries).

The Nokia 1 is a good smartphone for those who want an upgrade from a feature phone segment. At a price of Rs. 5,499, it has a pure Android experience, Nokia branding and that’s about it. With extra Rs. 500, you can get the Xiaomi Redmi 5A, that has some additional features as well as better camera and battery life.

The Nokia 1 just doesn't offer a lot for its asking price. And pricing is perhaps my biggest issue with the phone. As an Android Go device, we hoped that HMD would price it well under Rs 5,000, like the Lava Z50. But at Rs 5,499, the company is playing with fire because at this price, the Nokia 1 will compete against phones like Redmi 5A and 10.or D, both of which offer a lot more on paper and in real-world usage. The Nokia 1 stands nowhere close, and while it does promise timely Android updates, that's probably not enough to attract the highly-competitive budget market.

For around the $100 mark, the Nokia 1 is still a great choice, particularly in Western markets. HMD hasn't detailed availability plans for the U.S. just yet, but the phone is set to make its way to the UK in just over a month. In the meantime, if you're looking for an Android Go phone in the U.S., you'll have to wait until ZTE's Tempo Go is back in stock.

The biggest issue with the Nokia 1 is the Rs. 5,499 sticker price. If this smartphone had been priced somewhere in the vicinity of 3,000 to 4,000 rupees, it could have been a viable option for feature phone users looking to upgrade. Jio users can take a look at the cashback offer which effectively drops the price of the phone down to Rs 3,299, but others should definitely take a long, hard look at the competition before parting with their hard-earned cash, as there are plenty of other options in the sub-Rs. 10,000 price segment.

The Nokia 1 is an inexpensive Android smartphone, and you very much get what you pay for. If you have a bit more extra cash, I would suggest getting the Nokia 3. If your budget doesn’t stretch that far, the Nokia 1 is still a good choice. The device is definitely usable; you can check your email, use social media, and even play games.

However, it’s probably not ideal for the UK market where you can get a much better device for not much more. This is especially pertinent as we’re a bit worried about performance, but it could make for a good kids phone. Look out for a full review soon.

HMD Global has announced an international price of $85 which comes to roughly Rs. 5,500 before taxes. At that price, it will be hard to justify not spending a tiny amount more for a much more powerful and versatile phone such as the Xiaomi Redmi 5A (considering its official Rs. 5,999 price tag, though it currently sells for only Rs. 4,999 as part of an introductory offer). Nokia might have gotten the look and feel right, but this pricing means that it isn't chasing the same goal as other Android Go devices. It will appeal to those who are reassured by the Nokia brand and want a simple no-frills phone.

Overall, it’s surprising what you can get at this price, but you will be needing to buy a microSD card which is going to increase your spend anyways, so perhaps have a look at slightly more expensive competition.

The asking price might be cheap, but the Nokia 1 Plus asks you to make plenty of compromises in return. The feel and form-factor is right here, but performance often leaves too much to be desired. It’s not an uncommon compromise, and in the right situations, I can see it doing the trick. Nevertheless, this feels like a tired refrain. The Nokia 1 Plus is a budget phone that takes the usual shortcuts, but ends up hitting all the expected roadblocks regardless. It's really good for the price but it doesn't take that much more to get that much better.

The Motorola Moto E5 and Nokia's own 3.1 Plus are only £130 SIM-free, and they run the full version of Android. Sure, you're looking at almost twice the price, but if you'll be using it as your main phone, even the small step up in performance is worth the extra.

While the Nokia 1 Plus may offer a significant value because it packs pretty much the full Android 9 experience for a low price, it’s difficult to recommend since it is such an inconsistent experience. If you're using the device as just a texting and calling machine, it could work for you. But if you’re coming into the 1 Plus expecting to be able to have a flashy and fun full Android phone experience, you’ll likely be disappointed, even with the Nokia 1 Plus' affordable price tag in mind. You can buy the Nokia 1 Plus outright starting today from London Drugs and Best Buy Canada for $179.99 CAD.

The bottom line is the higher price of the Nokia 1 Plus due to its admirable software support is too much to justify when compared to the raw hardware value of its competition; hopefully Nokia can bring more RAM – and thus full Android – down to the $100 price bracket next and then they might just have an argument worthy of consideration.

The Nokia 1 Plus is a refined version of last year's bottom-level budget Nokia phone with incremental spec improvements and a new rubberized rear case that lends a classier look for a basic phone that looks far nicer than other phones at this price point.

We really like what HMD is doing with the Nokia brand in both the middle and higher range and we applaud the company for its grit and dedication that it takes to be successful in this business. Keep it up, HMD - just be cautious, because rapid growth is a double edged sword.

Nokia 1.3
HMD Global has released two new affordable phones recently as part of its Nokia range. The two mentioned are the Nokia 5.3 and the Nokia 1.3. The Nokia 1.3 is one of the most affordable smartphones from its company. It runs Android Go software, a pared down version of Android 10 that has been designed specifically for smartphones with lower specifications. In terms of its display, this model has been equipped with a 5.71-inch display with a 1520 x 720 resolution. It is an IPS screen with a U-shaped notch overhead. While the Nokia 1.3 is a Snapdragon-running smartphone, it is highly notable that it does not have one of the high-end Snapdragon CPUs but rather a lower-end Qualcomm SD 215. This processor is obviously capable of handling day-to-day usage.
The processor has been coupled with an Adreno 308 GPU, 1 GB of RAM and 16 GB of storage which is expandable by up to 128GB through a dedicated SD card. The Adreno 308 definitely has a slight edge, because it technically has the highest clocking of the entry-level Adreno 300 series, but the performance will still be on similar ground as the 300 series GPUs, since the architecture is similar. Therefore, highly demanding Android games might not run completely smoothly with the Adreno 308, but simple titles like Angry Bird and the usual multimedia tasks are definitely not a problem. As for the battery, the Nokia 1.3 has been incorporated with a 3,000mAh battery with 5W fast-charging support. This definitely reduces the time needed for recharging the phone. In addition, HMD Global claims that the phone will last for a whole day on a single charge, which is definitely something to note.
Apart from that, this smartphone has replaced the fingerprint scanner with FaceID for unlocking the phone with a face-recognition system. It also comes with dual SIMs with 4G LTE network. As far as the camera is concerned, the Nokia 1.3 has incorporated a single 8-megapixel main camera with Phase Detection Autofocus (PDAF), a single LED flash and an f/2.0 aperture. PDAF is actually an image-processing technology that takes account of two different images whenever an image is about to be captured. The image processor will automatically adjust the camera lenses to phase the images until it synchronizes them, creating the best possible image between the two. There is also a wide-angle 5-megapixel camera for selfies and video chats that resides within the notch upfront. As for the choices available, the Nokia 1.3 has been introduced in three color variants, namely Cyan, Charcoal and Sand, for users to choose from based on individual preferences. While the phone is definitely a decent bet for its price, the choice of owning one is obviously rather subjective, depending on the individual budget, preference and overall need.

The Nokia 1.3 is supposed to convince as a cheap smartphone especially by the price. With a replaceable battery and face recognition for unlocking it would have good beginnings, but it doesn't exactly make everyday life easy for its user due to detail errors.

The Nokia 1.3 might look like a bargain at first glance and even in the hand, but there's little point getting a phone that suffers from such painful performance issues.

Most aspects of the Nokia 1.3 remind you that this is a very affordable phone – the performance, the design, the camera quality – but as long as you're sticking to the basics, it's a cost vs benefits balance that we think will appeal to a certain number of people.

It’s a bit of a shame to end on such a damp note, since the Nokia 1.4 really isn’t half bad for the price. A phone that costs less than £100 is always going to be treading water, but the Nokia 1.4 comes off quite well, even if it fails to do anything particularly noteworthy. There are better-value options if you’re willing to dip into triple figures, though. Samsung’s Galaxy A21s is still a terrific choice for the budget-savvy buyer, and the Moto G10 is excellent value at £130 as well. However, the Nokia 1.4 finds itself in a league of its own. There’s no other smartphone on the market that costs less than £100, and if your buying budget can’t stretch very far, you’ll really struggle to do any better than this.

Overall, for the price of P4,990, you’ll get the Android Go Edition, 2-year Android support, sturdy and durable build, and long-lasting battery life. The rest have fairly decent performance and will surely help you with day-to-day social media usage. Nokia 1.4 is a notable budget-friendly device that will give satisfaction and long usability not just in one fully charged battery, but also for a couple of years thanks to sturdy and compact built. I appreciate Nokia phones running on stock android, and even in a Go Edition, the experience is seamless. I guess I will continue using this device as a backup daily driver as it will surely last for a year or so.

The Nokia 1.4 is not without flaws. But it is a good option for a budget phone with its large display, fast and secure operating system designed for low-capacity internals, elegant design, and other user-friendly features. It fits casual users who want their device capable of doing essential tasks smoothly and easily. However, it’s also important to note that for the same price point—give or take a few hundred pesos—realme and Xiaomi offer slightly higher-specced budget smartphones (realme C11 and Redmi 9C/9A, respectively). Or if you add a thousand pesos or two, you can get a higher Nokia model that brings significantly better performance and more up-to-date features.

Nokia: Nokia is a Finnish company founded in 1865 and headquartered in Finland. The company is known for its telecommunications equipment and cell phones. Nokia was one of the leading manufacturers of cell phones in the 1990s and has expanded its business into networking and technology solutions in recent years.
In 2011, Nokia partnered with Microsoft on Windows-based cell phones and sold the entire cell phone division to Microsoft in 2014, which limited the Nokia brand name to basic cell phones. In 2016, Finnish electronics manufacturer HMD Global entered into a licensing agreement with Nokia, bought the remaining Nokia name rights from Microsoft Mobile, and since 2017 has exclusively offered Nokia cell phones worldwide, which are based on Android, among other things, and are produced by Foxconn.

66%: This rating is poor. More than three quarters of the models are rated better. That is rather not a purchase recommendation. Even if verbal ratings in this area do not sound that bad ("sufficient" or "satisfactory"), they are usually euphemisms that disguise a classification as a below-average laptop.
