New full-size hybrid SUV with 884 hp charges in 9.5 minutes

Premium automakers face new competition in charging performance. Asian manufacturer Zeekr is bringing its new luxury flagship to the European market, emphasizing its technology rather than criticizing rivals. Other publications frequently misidentify the large Zeekr 9X Ultra AWD as a fully electric vehicle. Its powertrain tells a different story: the AWD model costs €119,500 and is a plug-in hybrid.
While many other automakers typically equip their hybrids with small batteries, and even VW's fully electric ID models often spend considerably longer at charging stations, Zeekr takes a different approach. The large six-seater has a 55.1 kWh battery that provides up to 111 miles of electric range. A combustion engine then acts as a generator, extending the total range to 458 miles. Charging performance is particularly notable. Its 900-volt architecture supports charging at up to 330 kW. Connected to a suitable DC fast charger, the PHEV can recharge its empty battery to 80% in just 9.5 minutes, giving the Chinese hybrid shorter charging times than leading EVs.
The Asian luxury model also delivers substantial performance beyond its charging capabilities. Its dual-motor electric powertrain produces a combined 660 kW (885 hp) and 690 lb-ft of torque. Despite a curb weight of 6,393 pounds, it accelerates from 0 to 62 mph in 4.1 seconds. Standard adaptive two-chamber air suspension provides 4.3 inches of height adjustment to maintain ride comfort.
Zeekr's spacious cabin takes direct aim at other luxury models. The flexible 2+2+2 seating layout allows rear passengers to use the space as either a mobile cinema or a quiet lounge. The Chinese automaker now offers this combination of sports car performance, 900-volt charging and luxury comfort at a starting price of €119,500 including 19% VAT (about $134,000). The luxury market will determine whether this plug-in hybrid can challenge the established brands.
