New affordable smartwatch promises a SIM slot, 5MP camera and a 2.4-inch AMOLED screen

Days after launching the Hero K1 under its Rollme brand, Rogbid has introduced the Model R5, an Android smartwatch with a 2.4-inch AMOLED display and a SIM card slot for use without a paired smartphone. The watch costs $129.99 as part of the company’s 11.11 Shopping Festival promotion and comes in Cyber Black and Stellar Gold.

The square display has a resolution of 480 x 480 pixels and sits in a two-tone case. The watch takes standard 22mm quick-release straps and has a lanyard connector, so it can also be worn as a pendant around the neck.

A W527 chip powers the Model R5, and Rogbid says its heterogeneous architecture handles multitasking and graphics smoothly. Because the watch runs Android, owners can download apps for social media, entertainment, and productivity directly onto it. It switches between Bluetooth pairing with a phone and standalone cellular use.

The watch has a 5MP camera for photos and QR code payments, along with multi-system GPS and a compass for navigation. It carries an IP67 rating against dust and water. Rogbid lists round-the-clock health monitoring and sleep tracking that offers suggestions for improving rest, but it has not detailed which sensors the watch uses.

A 1,350mAh battery powers the Model R5, and Rogbid says it charges fully in 80 minutes and lasts a full day of use. Launch orders include a stainless steel strap, a leather strap, and a pendant chain at no extra cost. The watch is available from Rogbid’s online store, and the company has not said how long the $129.99 launch price will run.
