New Motorola Xoom models spotted in Verizon inventory

Teaser
The “Media Edition” Xoom and Xoom 2 tablets may already be lined up for a launch on Verizon’s network

The folks over at Droid-Life have eyed new tablet models in Verizon’s inventory system yet again, this time revealing more Motorola Xoom models down the pipeline.

The source claims that the MZ617 models in the Verizon system are Xoom 2 models, ranging from 16GB all the way up to 64GB, each with 4G compatibility. Meanwhile, the MZ609 models are the smaller “Media Edition” Xoom tablets, which were unofficially leaked last month.

Exactly when Verizon will make available these Motorola tablets remains to be seen. A true successor to the mildly acclaimed original 10.1-inch Xoom has yet to officially surface, although Motorola seems determined to expand the Xoom name such as with the Xoom Family Edition.

Unfortunately for Motorola, current signs are pointing to decreased Xoom sales ever since the tablet’s February launch. According to Electronista, Motorola only shipped 100,000 Xoom tablets during the past summer, down from 440,000 and 250,000 units from the spring and winter months, respectively. Of course, the reduction in production may be due to both slow sales and preparation for newer Xoom models as well.
