NVIDIA launches GeForce GT 540M Laptop GPU
Graphic card major NVIDIA now has a new entrant in the laptop GPU segment-the GeForce GT 540M. The first GPU in the GeForce 500M laptop graphics series, it is based on 40nm production process and has 96 processor cores and a 128-bit memory interface supporting GDDR5 and DDR3. While the graphics clock is peak at 672MHz, the processor maxes at 1344MHz clock speed and memory is clocked up to 900MHz. In a press release, NVIDIA has mentioned that it is staying put on its strengths of a matured manufacturing process and a reliable architecture to produce such GPUs with higher performance while maintaining power efficiency.
The NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M’s standard list of features include DirectX 11 support, NVIDIA Optimus technology, PhysX, 3D Vision, 3DTV Play, and CUDA technologies, and support for NVIDIA Verde drivers. The first notebooks to ship with this GPU will be from Acer and will currently be available in China. Next month on, these GPUs will be seen on machines worldwide.
