Evan Blass from @evLeaks has published a set of images presumably showing off the Moto Z Droid Edition and its related MotoMods accessories. Lenovo recently announced the Moto Z series as the successor to the Moto X with each model designed around detachable modular extras. The bottom rear of the phone looks to be sporting a set of 16 pins for connecting MotoMods and powered Smart Covers that can provide more functionality for the user. The concept is similar to the LG G5, though the latter requires removing the battery first as opposed to Lenovo's more "hot swap" friendly design.
Based on the images, Lenovo is planning on including an optical zoom MotoMod with stronger Flash and a rotary control switch not unlike a dedicated point-and-shoot camera. Most accessories will likely cover the entire back surface of the smartphone and previous leaks reveal that Lenovo may be planning on adding even more MotoMods sporting stereo speakers and pico projectors.
The Moto Z Droid Edition is expected to be the North American name for the Moto Z while Europeans will likely see it launch as the Moto Z Style or Moto Z Play. The Droid Edition will also likely be a Verizon exclusive as the Droid name has historically been tied to the carrier. Lenovo may be showing off the Moto Z and much more at its Tech World event come June 9th.
