Latest leaks claim that Microsoft will unveil the the new features of the next-gen Windows OS and may even launch a preview release during an event scheduled for September 30.

Microsoft Windows 9, also referred to as Windows Threshold, has been in the rumor mill for a long time but the Redmond giant did not even reveal the commercial name of this next-gen operating system so far. Fortunately, it seems that Windows 9/Threshold could be unveiled as soon as next month - if the latest rumors prove to be true, of course.

According to industry insiders who spoke to The Verge, "the software maker is tentatively planning its press event for September 30th to detail upcoming changes to Windows as part of a release codenamed "Threshold."" Unfortunately, it looks like not even this date is certain, but the same sources mentioned the product is currently being developed and the first preview version should arrive next month during the event mentioned above "or shortly afterwards."

Next to the new mini Start menu and the removal of the Charms bar, Windows 9/Threshold is expected to include various additional interface changes and Microsoft's Cortana personal assistant. A separate build that brings together Windows Phone and Windows RT is also expected to be a part of the next-gen Windows family, but everything should be taken with a grain of salt for the time being. We will surely find out more about this next month.
