Microsoft Windows 10 now available for Xiaomi Mi 4

Xiaomi Mi 4 gets official Windows 10 ROM
Xiaomi Mi 4
Xiaomi Mi 4 LTE users are the first to get the ability to download and install Windows 10 on their devices as they wish.

Although this does not come as a surprise and has been officially confirmed already that some Xiaomi handsets that come loaded with Android would get Windows builds that users can install as they wish, it is good to know that it is finally happening. Earlier today, Xiaomi announced that the first phone to get Windows 10 is Xiaomi Mi 4 LTE.

According to the official forum post about this topic, the Windows 10 ROM image for the Mi 4 LTE is freely available to download. To get it, all the user needs to do is be a part of the Microsoft Insider program - or register in the program if they are not members already. While a pre-release build became available in June, the new Windows 10 ROM for Mi 4 LTE is the first build based on the commercially available Windows 10 Mobile.

Unfortunately, the Windows 10 build available for the Xiaomi Mi 4 LTE is only available in Chinese and only works on this model, so users of other Xiaomi handsets must wait to get their ROM images. However, those who move to Windows and want to get back to Android/MIUI can easily flash back their old firmware.

Although I have been writing about new software and hardware for almost a decade, I consider myself to be old school. I always enjoy listening to music on CD or tape instead of digital files and I will not even get into the touchscreen vs physical keys debate. However, I also enjoy new technology, as I now have the chance to take a look at the future every day. I joined the Notebookcheck crew back in 2013 and I have no plans to leave the ship anytime soon.
