In March, Mecha Systems Inc. held a live stream where the first round of upgrades to the upcoming device were announced. Significant upgrades to most device internals, including the chipset, memory, and even a jump from an LCD to a larger AMOLED display, all made their way onto the upcoming Mecha Comet. However, all of these upgrades resulted in a 20% price increase, which puts the estimated price in the $200 range on launch. While the price increase is a bit of bad news, the better news is that the Mecha Comet is getting even more upgrades.
Over on the Mecha Comet Discord channel, users received an announcement that additional features were pushed during the Mecha Comets hardware design stage. The newly announced features include:
- Two additional tactile switches
- Internal SD card slot
- WiFi 6 and BT 5.4
- Hardware switches for WiFi, camera, and mic
- USB1 power out and in
Notably, the Mecha Comet will also sport a headphone jack next to the display out port. While the Mecha Comet has abundant USB ports to deliver audio output, a dedicated headphone jack is a welcomed addition to the Comets I/O.
The post also details some good news on the device's development progress. Shoaib, the founder of Mecha Systems Inc., reports that the company is on track to receive EVT prototypes in May, bringing the Mecha Comet one step closer to production. Curious users can find more information on the Mecha Comet update on the Mecha Comet Discord channel, which is linked below.
