Matt Damon's crypto commercial gets ridiculed for comparing crypto investments with space travel

Besides the world-famous crypto investor and Tesla CEO Elon Musk, more and more celebrities in the US publicly embrace cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and Ethereum. However, a particularly dramatic commercial with a highly paid actor has now garnered heavy criticism for its inappropriate comparisons. It's none other than Matt Damon who plays the lead role in a commercial for the crypto exchange Crypto.com.

In the video which is also embedded below, the popular actor, who is known for his roles in the Bourne movie franchise and The Martian, leisurely strolls around inside a fictional space station while explaining that there have been many "almosts" in the history of mankind. In order to support this claim, the ad shows explorers from the colonial era whose endeavors ultimately failed.

In contrast, a mountaineer, the Wright brothers and a group of astronauts have been picked as examples of brave people whose commitment and dedication was rewarded with success. The morale of this comparison is the commercial's catchy slogan: "Fortune favours the brave". When applying this logic to crypto investments, some viewers may have come to the conclusion that the TV ad implies that anyone who does not invest in crypto is not brave and won't be successful.

Considering the recently plummeting prices of cryptocurrencies like Ethereum and Bitcoin, this may in fact be a pretty bold statement, especially when it comes from a multi-millionaire who could easily deal with risky crypto investments and the loss of a few million dollars. Since the commercial has been repeatedly aired during Sunday's NFL games, Twitter has consequently exploded with countless posts in which the actor's involvement in the controversial TV ad is viciously mocked.
