Made in USA: BlueChip puts Snapdragon X in a rugged laptop

Most critical components in laptops are manufactured in Taiwan, China or South Korea. Defense contractor Anduril Industries now wants to change that and demonstrate that it is indeed possible to manufacture laptops in the USA. In collaboration with Qualcomm, all components are to be manufactured in the United States – at least sooner or later.
The manufacturer has not yet specified which components of this first model, which it calls BlueChip, will actually be manufactured in the USA. It is unlikely that the RAM and SSD will be manufactured in the USA, as Anduril is currently talking primarily about far less complex parts such as the display glass and frame, as well as ribbon cables. Qualcomm does, however, plan to have the Snapdragon X ARM chip intended for this laptop manufactured at TSMC in Arizona.
The USA requires at least 65 percent of the components to be manufactured in the USA for a product to be marketed as "Made in America" – whether BlueChip meets this threshold remains to be seen. Hardly any details about the specifications are known so far either, apart from the fact that the laptop will be offered with a choice of Windows 11 or one of two Linux distributions.
Anduril Industries told The Verge that BlueChip may just be a low-volume laptop for military and government customers at first. It is currently still completely unclear when or at what price the laptop will come to market, BlueChip is little more than a prototype at the moment.
