Archive.org versionAt the end of the day, the Sword 15 is a very similar device to the Katana GF66. Indeed, it is a different kind of weapon, but all of the results from our benchmarks suggest, that choosing between these two is a matter of visual preference. If you like bright-colored devices, then the Sword 15 is a decent option, with its White chassis, and more lenient Blue backlight. Interestingly, the bottom panel is black, and we do like the contrast. At the end of the day, this laptop’s strength is playing games. Unfortunately, it is not the best when it comes to 3D modeling or content creation, due to its limited CPU cooling, so you might want to look elsewhere.

If you want to play your favorite games at the highest graphics setting possible without breaking the bank, MSI's Sword 15 isn't terrible if you can find it on sale for less than $1,000. All the specs make sense: a speedy Nvidia RTX 3060 GPU, double the storage (and in some cases, the memory) of better budget laptops like Acer's Nitro 5 or HP's Victus 16, and a slightly better CPU for multi-core applications than either. That said, you can definitely get both Acer and HP's systems for $1,000 or less right now, and they'll be just as good for raw gaming as MSI's Sword 15. More importantly, both laptops have much better overall designs (though similarly so-so 144Hz screens). Go the Victus route, and you'll even get a gaming laptop that sounds as good as it looks, always a high hurdle for most gaming laptops to overcome. We think the flaws of the MSI Sword 15's poor design, coupled with its so-so software for controlling its speeds and cooling and its incredible loudness once the latter kicks into full gear, make for a subpar experience given the system's regular cost. MSI's laptop delivers a middle-of-the-road experience, at best, and only if it comes packaged with a good discount. Otherwise, you can do much better for quite a bit less.

Gamers looking for a mid-range laptop have a lot of choice and, with mid-range RTX 40-series hardware presumably arriving later in 2023, it’s an excellent time to snag a deal on outgoing 30-series laptops. The MSI Sword 15 A12UE is a reasonably priced offering that shows promise in performance tests. Its design and features, however, could use improvement.

i5-11400H: Tiger Lake (H45 series) based high end hexa-core SoC for gaming laptops and workstations. The six CPU cores clock with 2.7 - 4.5 GHz. The integrated UHD Graphics GPU offers 16 EUs at up to 1.45 GHz. The chip is manufactured on the second-gen 10 nm Intel SuperFin process.
Intel Alder Lake-P:
i7-12650H: Alder Lake based mobile CPU with 6 performance cores and 4 efficient cores. The performance cores offer hyper threading, leading to 16 threads that can be processed. The CPU clocks from 1.7 to 4.7 GHz and supports vPro.
Intel Alder Lake-S:
i7-12700H: Alder Lake based mobile CPU with 6 performance cores and 8 efficient cores. The performance cores offer hyper threading, leading to 20 threads that can be processed. The CPU clocks from 1.7 to 4.7 GHz and supports vPro.
