That is the early story of the MSI Stealth A16 AI+ — another bridge between pro productivity and gaming that is turbocharged with AI smarts, thanks to that new AMD chip. It’s clear that this has been built to compete with other 16-inch creator systems like the MacBook Pro, but time will tell whether it can topple the king off his throne. Zoals gezegd waren de verwachtingen van een sub 500 euro laptop vooraf bescheiden, zeg maar gerust laag. Na een maand gebruik ben ik echter positief verrast door de totale ervaring met de Chromebook Plus 514. Als ik hem pak lijkt hij altijd nog genoeg accuduur over te hebben om mijn werk mee te doen, je krijgt wat extra pixels wat (school)werk heel duidelijk ten goede komt, plus je kan er comfortabel uren op tikken. De voornaamste nadelen zijn de beperkingen van het scherm op gebied van kleur en helderheid en het relatief basic touchpad. Twee zaken die je op dit prijspunt eigenlijk niet beter kan verwachten en ook niet beter zal vinden, maar wel twee hele duidelijke argumenten waarom je, indien je het budget hebt, meer uit zou willen geven als het even kan. Wil of kan je niet honderden euros meer uitgeven en kan jij met ChromeOS uit de voeten dan denk ik dat Acer met de Chromebook Plus 514 een hele leuke laptop neerzet.

MSI Stealth 16 AI Studio A1V review – Great Performance Held Back by Terrifying Overheating

Thin and solid metal chassis that houses powerful hardware – this describes best the MSI Stealth 16 AI Studio A1V. The cooling with its five heat pipes and a pair of fans is potent. That’s why the Intel Core Ultra 9 185H can boost its P and E cores to around 3.20 GHz / 2.70 GHz in long loads and yes, that is a good result for a thin laptop like this one. On the other hand, the high GPU memory temperatures cause notable TGP throttling to around 75W in “Extreme Performance” mode so in our case the max power limit of 105W is just a mirage. Maybe this is an insulated issue with our laptop? Here we have to remind you that almost all of the reviewed products in LaptopMedia come from online stores, instead of using review samples provided by the manufacturers. MSI Stealth 16 AI Studio A1V is not an exception.

MSI has achieved something a little bit special here and it's hard to find too many negatives for a laptop that is one of the early adopters of NPU technology. The CPU and GPU are some of the latest and most impressive available. The chassis is slimline and the display is ultra high definition plus. The only thing I couldn't stomach about this laptop was the price.

MSI is especially known as a manufacturer of motherboards and graphics cards for PCs, but also offers computer accessories, complete systems, motherboards, graphics cards, laptops, desktop PCs, monitors and other components. However, the Microstar brand name in Germany belongs to the Medion company. MSI is known for its gaming products and has developed a wide range of gaming laptops and desktop PCs. The company is also active in workstations, servers and industrial automation. MSI has offices in North America, Europe, Asia and Australia.

These graphics cards are able to play the latest and most demanding games in high resolutions and full detail settings with enabled Anti-Aliasing.

NVIDIA NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 Laptop GPU: High-end graphics card for laptops based on the Ada Lovelace architecture. Offers 12 GB GDDR6 (192 Bit) and is configurable with a TGP of 60 - 150W (+ Dynamic Boost). 

NVIDIA NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Laptop GPU: High-end graphics card for laptops based on the Ada Lovelace architecture. Offers 8 GB GDDR6 (128 Bit) and is configurable with a TGP of 35 - 115W (+ Dynamic Boost). 

NVIDIA NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 Laptop GPU: High-end laptop graphics card based on the Ada Lovelace architecture. Offers 16 GB GDDR6 VRAM with a 256 Bit memory bus and can be configured with 80 - 150 TDP settings (+ Dynamic Boost).

Intel Meteor Lake-H:

Ultra 9 185H: The top-of-the-line Meteor Lake chip that debuted in December 2023. This 1st Gen Core Ultra processor has come to replace 13th generation Core chips; it has 16 cores (6 + 8 + 2) and 22 threads at its disposal. Its Performance cores, of which there are 6, run at up to 5.1 GHz while its Efficient cores, of which there are 10 (8 main cores plus 2 extra ones found in the Low Power Island) run at up to 3.8 GHz. The 8-core Arc GPU, just out of the oven, serves as the integrated graphics adapter - this runs at up to 2.35 GHz - and there is a bevy of other brand-new technologies on offer as well such as the integrated AI Boost NPU with two Gen 3 engines for hardware AI workload acceleration. vPro Enterprise and business-centric features such as the Remote Platform Erase are onboard as well. This laptop processors's "base" power consumption is 45 W, while its Turbo power consumption is not supposed to go over 115 W.

Ultra 7 155H: A high-end Meteor Lake chip that debuted in December 2023. This 1st Gen Core Ultra processor has come to replace 13th generation Core chips; it has 16 cores (6 + 8 + 2) and 22 threads at its disposal. Its Performance cores, of which there are 6, run at up to 4.8 GHz while its Efficient cores, of which there are 10 (8 main cores plus 2 extra ones found in the Low Power Island) run at up to 3.8 GHz. The integrated AI Boost NPU offers two Gen 3 engines for hardware AI workload acceleration. This laptop processor's Base power consumption is 28 W while its Turbo power consumption is supposed to stay within 115 W.
