Lenovo has shown off three new docks at IFA 2025. They include a wide range of connectivity standards, including Thunderbolt 5, Thunderbolt 4 and USB 4.0.

Lenovo has unveiled three docks to complement the extensive lineup of products it showcased at CES 2025. The ThinkPad Thunderbolt 5 Smart Dock 7500, ThinkPad Thunderbolt 4 Smart Dock 7500 and ThinkPad USB4 Smart Dock 5500 offer a wide range of connectivity options at every price point.

Starting with the ThinkPad Thunderbolt 5 Smart Dock 7500, it comes with two Thunderbolt 5.0 ports, two DP 2.1 ports, one HDMI 2.1 port, three USB 3.2 Type-A ports, one 2.5 Gbps Ethernet jack and two USB 3.2 Type-C ports. It measures 235 mm x 80 mm x 30 mm and weighs 586 grams. The dock can output three 8K 60 Hz streams and one 4K 60 Hz stream, or four 4K 120 Hz streams, simultaneously. The USB-C ports can output up to 180 Watts of power via USB PD.The ThinkPad Thunderbolt 4 Smart Dock 5500 sacrifices some features for cost savings. For starters, the two Thunderbolt ports have been reduced to one, and the dock interfaces with the device via a single Thunderbolt 4.0 port. The two DP ports have been downgraded to DP 1.4, but the HDMI 2.1 ports and 2.5 Gbps RJ45 Ethernet jack stay, along with the two USB 3.2 Type-C ports. Lastly, the dock comes with four USB 3.2 Type-A ports (one extra).

Lastly, the ThinkPad USB4 Smart Dock 5500 replaces the input Thunderbolt 4.0 with a USB 4 port, and that's the only USB 4.0 port on the dock. There's a USB 3.2 Type-C port apiece at the front and back. Two USB 3.2 Type-A ports are also laid out similarly. Lastly, the RJ45 Ethernet jack is downgraded to 1 Gbps, while the DP 1.4/HDMI 2.1 ports remain unchanged. USB-PD Wattage stays at 100 Watts.

Price and availability

All three docks will be available for purchase in October 2025 for the following prices.

  • ThinkPad Thunderbolt 5 Smart Dock 7500: €399
  • ThinkPad Thunderbolt 4 Smart Dock 7500: €299
