88.1% Lenovo ThinkPad E16 G1 AMD Review - Large office laptop with AMD power and WQHD display | Notebookcheck
Lenovo expands its ThinkPad E-series lineup with a 16-inch version. The new ThinkPad E16 G1 uses a familiar AMD Ryzen processor in combination with a bright WQHD panel.

Lenovo ThinkPad E16 Gen 1 (AMD) review – snappy business device with long battery life
Source: Laptop Media English
The Lenovo ThinkPad E16 Gen 1 (AMD) is an unpretentious business device that doesn’t feature jaw-dropping specs but it has enough power for usual daily tasks or normal office work. Our device has an AMD Ryzen 7 7730U and we didn’t experience any slowdowns or system hangs during testing. The laptop definitely feels snappy but keep in mind that the default 4-core CPU variant (which is the Ryzen 3 7330U) isn’t a multitasking beast. The cooling solution is adequate. Thanks to it, the 8-core Ryzen 7 7730U (which is the top processor variant for the series) can maintain a stable ~2.70 GHz clock no matter the load alongside good temperatures. The noise under load is kept as low as possible without sacrificing the performance – the single fan is almost quiet when the CPU is stressed at max. On the outside, the keyboard doesn’t feel hot so you can use the laptop even when the processor is under heavy load. The input devices are a pleasant surprise. The keyboard is cozy for long typing sessions and the touchpad is smooth.

Model:

The latest to join the Lenovo family is none other than the Lenovo ThinkPad E16 G1 AMD. As far as its design is concerned, this device is anthracite in colour, quite similar to the T14s G2. In addition, the slightly roughened, rubberized surfaces are also the same and have a very high quality feel to it. While the fingerprints are still visible, it is much less than before. Furthermore, the screen's edges are narrower due to its 16:10 format, while the rest of the design remains more or less the same. Overall, the workmanship is free from gaps and is definitely outstanding, as is the stability. This is simply proven by the lid which can hardly be twisted, and targeted pressure on the back lid does not result in any image distortions.

As for the display, this laptop has been incorporated with a matte, 16-inch IPS panel from CSOT with a 2,560 x 1,600 pixel resolution in the 16:10 format. Well, in comparison to the WUXGA panel of the ThinkPad T16 Intel, this display is not a so-called "low-power LCD." With the measured values of both panels being fairly similar, it leaves mainly the better calibration of the WQXGA panel to stand out in the state of delivery. On the other hand, this device also includes a 1.080p webcam which is definitely identical to that in the ThinkPad T16 Intel. It is a great option for virtual calls and meets for office or personal use. In terms of its processor, this model has been equipped with the AMD Ryzen 5 Pro 6650U which is a hexa-core processor. It allows an overall smooth web browsing experience with several tabs and simultaneous 4K YouTube video reproduction poses absolutely no problem. However, due to its more powerful Turbo, the device still keeps a slight advantage in browser benchmarks such as Mozilla Kraken or Octane v2.

As for its graphic card, the AMD Radeon 660M of the Ryzen 5 PRO has been used here. It is possibly the weaker of the two solely available integrated graphics solutions of the ThinkPad T16 AMD. While older games can be played at medium to high detail settings, new games are at most just barely playable in low settings, since this model is not designed for gaming. Apart from that, this laptop carries a 52.5 Wh battery which allows web surfing for 10:35 hours. While it might not be the best option available out there, this is still quite decent for a laptop though. Overall, it is definitely a great laptop from Lenovo. However, it still requires more exploration, depending on the need and preference of the user as it might be at the liking of some but not others though.

Hands-on article by Jagadisa Rajarathnam

AMD Vega 8: Integrated graphics card of the Ryzen APUs based on the Vega architecture with 8 CUs (= 512 shaders) and a clock of up to 2.100 MHz.

Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.

R7 7730U: A Zen 3-based octa-core APU for laptops running at 2 GHz to 4.5 GHz and featuring the Vega 8 iGPU (8 CUs clocked at up to 2,000 MHz). Refresh of the 2022 Ryzen 7 5825U with the same specifications.» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.

16.00":

15-inch display variants are the standard and are used for more than half of all laptops.

The reason for the popularity of mid-sized displays is that this size is reasonably easy on the eyes, often allows high resolutions and thus offers rich details on the screen, yet does not consume too much power and the devices can still be reasonably compact - simply the standard compromise.

Lenovo: Lenovo ("Le" from English legend, novo (Latin) for new) was founded in 1984 as a Chinese computer trading company. As of 2004, the company was the largest laptop manufacturer in China and, after acquiring IBM's PC division in 2005, the fourth largest in the world. In addition to desktops and notebooks, the company manufactures monitors, projectors, servers, etc, and specializes in developing, manufacturing and marketing consumer electronics, personal computers, software, enterprise solutions and related services.

In 2016, the company ranked first in the world in computer sales. It still held it in 2023 with about 23% global market share. Important product lines are Thinkpad, Legion and Ideapad.

In 2011, it acquired a majority stake in Medion AG, a European computer hardware manufacturer. In 2014, Motorola Mobility was purchased, which gave Lenovo a boost in the smartphone market.

91.05%: There are not very many models that are rated better. Most of the assessments are in percentage ranges below that. The tested product is not considered perfect, but the sources give a clear purchase recommendation.
