Leaked iPhone 5S packaging shows possible fingerprint sensor

Teaser
Silver ring encircling home button could be the iPhone 5S's long-rumored fingerprint sensor.

One of the most consistently repeated rumor regarding the iPhone 5S has been the inclusion of a fingerprint sensor, and we might now have a glimpse of it. Images of alleged packaging for the 5S show a silver ring encircling the iconic home button, and this lines up with what had been previously mentioned.

The first mention of a silver ring came courtesy of Fox News's Clayton Morris, who appeared on This Week in Tech (~1:26 below) and claimed that sources informed him that the sensor would be an "innie" (i.e. inwardly curved) with a "silver ring around it". This assumption is now further evidenced by images leaked on multiple Chinese websites, showing what appears to be iPhone 5S packaging that features a silver ring around the home button.

Interestingly, one of Apple's own images hint at this very rumor, making it an even stronger possibility. In the invite image sent out to members of the press, there are numerous solid and colorful circles as well as a few silver ones with plain interiors. The circles were first thought to represent iOS 7 and the various iPhone 5C colors, but it now makes sense that some could point to a change in the iPhone 5S's home button.

In any case, all will be known in short time, and we'll have the scoop when Apple makes things official at 10AM PT this Tuesday.
