LG Electronics unveiled today two new lightweight notebooks, the 13Z940 and the 14Z950. The two new notebooks are 13.3-inch and 14-inch models respectively, both weigh less than 1 kg, and both come with Full HD displays.

LG Electronics issued a press release today announcing the launch of two new light and compact laptops in various markets around the world. The 13Z940 comes with a 13.3-inch display, while the 14Z950 comes with a 14-inch display. Interestingly, the two new LG laptops weigh 980 grams each, which is impressively light given the specs. The 13.3-inch LG 13Z940 has been available in some markets for a few good months, both is now made more broadly available along with the new 14-inch 14Z950.

The first thing that strikes us about the two notebooks is how compact they are. The 13Z940 measures 303.2 x 213.5 x 13.6 mm, while the 14Z950 measures 324 x 225 x 13.4 mm. LG was able to reach these compact footprints by integrating a very narrow edge around the display, one just 4.4 mm thick. On both models the displays run a resolution of 1920 by 1080 pixels.

Depending on the exact configuration, the two laptops come with various Intel Core i processors. The 14Z940 comes with a range of Haswell processors, such as the Core i3-4005U or the Core i5-4200U. The 14Z950 makes the jump to the new Broadwell generation of Core i chips from Intel, such as the Core i5-5200U or the Core i7-5500U. Depending on the processor, the integrated GPU is an Intel HD 4400 or an Intel HD 5500 chip.

As far as memory is concerned, the two ultra-slim notebooks from LG come with 4 or 8 GB of DDR3L-1600 RAM, as well as a 128GB SSD. On the connectivity side, customers get two USB 3.0 ports, one micro USB 2.0 port, a HDMI-out port, WiFi 802.11 ac, as well as an integrated microSD card reader.

LG has omitted the prices from its press release, but the 13Z940 has been available for some time in Australia at the equivalent of $1149 USD.
