Intel Core i5-13600HX: Raptor Lake mobility CPU shows up online with six performance and eight efficiency cores

The Intel Core i5-13600HX has shown up on the BAPCo Crossmark database. It has six performance cores and eight efficiency cores, for a total of 14 cores and 20 threads. Key specs such as its base/boost clocks are unknown, but the HX name tag suggests that its TDP could be around 55 Watts.

Intel is already in the process of testing a few Raptor Lake mobile processors, as spotted by Twitter leaker @momomo us. The processor in question, the Intel Core i5-13600HX, has shown up on the BAPCo Crossmark website.

A cursory glance at the Intel Core i5-13600HX's specifications highlights that it has fourteen cores and eight threads, effectively confirming that it will pack six performance cores and eight efficiency cores, the same as its desktop counterpart. The "HX" moniker suggests that it will have a TDP of 55W. The Core i5-13600HX sample in question falls flat against the Core i5-12600H despite featuring two extra P cores. One can chalk that down to the processor being in the early stages of development, as confirmed by the AC-powered test rig.

However, it may be months, if not years, before the Intel Core i5-13600HX sees the light of day. Even the previous-generation Core i5-12600HX was announced three months ago and is yet to find its way into laptops. If the Alder Lake launch schedule is anything to go by, one can expect to see the Raptor Lake H45 (Intel Core i9-13900H, Core i7-13800H, etc.) at around CES 2023. That will be followed by the low-power Raptor Lake P and U SKUs sometime in mid-2023 and finally the HX line after that.

Leaked benchmarks of the Raptor Lake desktop processors sing praises of the 13th-generation Intel silicon. It does, however, come at a tremendous cost, with the top-of-the-line Core i9-13900K guzzling up to 350 Watts of power. While that is possible in a desktop environment that allows for beefy cooling solutions, laptops won't be able to dissipate that kind of heat. Hence, the performance difference between the 12th-generation Alder Lake and Raptor Lake mobility SKUs might not be nearly as impressive.
