Instax Square 2 launches with analog filters for more creative control

Fujifilm is relaunching the Instax Square, giving the camera not only a revamped design but also an interesting feature: built-in mood filters. A slider on the lens moves a filter in front of the front lens element, giving images either a cool or a warm color cast.
This gives photographers a little creative control. The exposure is selected automatically by the camera, and the flash is also switched on or off automatically, depending on the ambient light. Fujifilm supports a shutter speed of 1/2s to 1/400s, while the aperture is fixed at f/12.6. The lens offers three focus settings – a macro mode for objects at a distance of 0.3 to 0.5 meters, a portrait mode for subjects between 0.5 and 3 meters, and a landscape mode for more distant objects.
With dimensions of 13.9 × 11.9 × 7.1 centimeters and a weight of 450 grams, the Instax Square 2 is relatively large, mainly due to the film format. Instax Square Film measures 6.2 x 6.2 centimeters. Four LR6 button batteries are supposed to provide enough power for 300 photos. In addition to a small optical viewfinder, the camera also offers a mirror on the front, which is intended to make taking selfies easier.
Pricing and availability
The Fujifilm Instax Square 2 will launch late October at a recommended retail price of $119.95. A film pack for 20 photos costs around $31 on Amazon.
