In Megabonk, players choose from a roster of wildly designed characters and dive into randomly generated levels filled with swarms of enemies. Much like in Vampire Survivors, attacks occur automatically, leaving players to focus on collecting gear, weapons and upgrades to craft the strongest possible build. Picking the wrong synergies or falling behind in scaling can quickly lead to defeat as enemy waves become increasingly relentless – and true to the roguelite formula, that means starting over.
What sets Megabonk apart is its use of a third-person perspective instead of the usual top-down view, making the fast-paced roguelite action feel more intense and immersive. The game features 20 uniquely designed characters, each with their own strengths and weaknesses, adding extra depth to build variety. While the core gameplay stays true to classic Survivors mechanics, the level design and overall pacing lean more toward action roguelikes such as Risk of Rain.
In addition to its diverse builds and quirky humor, this clever fusion of two genre standouts played a key role in earning Megabonk a strong 9 out of 10 from Destructoid. While the reviewers noted that the late-game RNG could be frustrating at times, they still described the game as “an absurd, charming, yet potent evolution of the Survivors-like formula”.
Megabonk has also earned consistently strong feedback on other platforms. On Metacritic, it holds a User Score of 8.2, although an official Metascore was not available at the time of writing. Even more striking is its reception on Steam: 95% of more than 80,000 user reviews are positive, a level of acclaim that few games ever reach.

Megabonk comes from solo developer vedinad and is normally priced at around $10 on Steam. Until December 17, however, the innovative roguelite is 20% off and available for just under $8 – its lowest price yet, according to SteamDB. The game is also rated “Verified” for Steam Deck (available on Amazon for $520), meaning it runs smoothly even on the go.
