Hands-on at Gamescom 2026: First impressions of the Cherry XTRFY M42V2

Cherry is expanding its XTRFY lineup at the lower end of the price range. At Gamescom 2026, the manufacturer unveiled the XTRFY M42V2, a gaming mouse that weighs just 45 grams without its cable and will be offered for 40 euros. This is said to come at no expense to quality. Mind you, we were only able to test the mouse for a very limited time at Gamescom. At first glance and upon first touch, there’s nothing to complain about in terms of quality.

The mouse is slightly modular: It comes with two grip shells that can be swapped without tools. This allows the mouse to be adapted slightly to individual preferences, and it is intended to be well suited to palm, claw, and fingertip grips. Configuration is handled without software, yet various configuration options are still available. The setting to be changed is selected using a switch; a button is then used to adjust it, while an LED on the side indicates the selected setting. The CPI, lift-off distance, debounce time, and polling rate can all be configured.

When it comes to the polling rate, the XTRFY M42V2 does not reach the highest levels, as it is limited to a maximum of 1,000 Hz. Whether an even higher polling rate would actually provide a noticeable improvement is debatable. The built-in Pixart 3327 sensor supports resolutions ranging from 400 to 6,200 CPI and can detect accelerations of up to 30 G. The mouse uses Huano Transparent Blue Shell Pink Dot switches, which are rated for 80 million actuations. It connects via a 1.8-meter cable.
